Sports

All residents are encouraged to participate in any sport that interests them.
Although we take the philosophy of having a go as important, we do like to win,
and we consistently do well in many of the contested sports. Many residents also
attend these events to offer support to those who are representing the Hall.
This plays a major part in promoting the Bruce Hall spirit. We always aim for
the highest standard of sportsmanship. That means we support our own teams
without “sledging” the opposition. It means we compete fiercely but always
within the rules and spirit of the game and without violence or cheating. It
means we respect the referees, umpires, linesmen, scorekeepers and our
opponents. Most of all it means we respect ourselves. Not everyone on the field
can compete for the MVP (Most Valued Player) award, but we all compete to be the
fairest.
Sports contested in the inter-Hall Sports Shield include
Hockey, Tennis, Basketball, Aussie Rules, Touch Football, Softball, Netball,
Volleyball, Rugby League, Soccer, Table Tennis, Swimming, the Road Relay and the
premiere sporting event on the calendar, Inward Bound. The Sports Reps of the
Common Room Committee are responsible for organising teams,
coaches, umpires and fields for sports competions.
