Standard Catered Rooms

Each resident's fully furnished catered single study/bed room at Bruce Hall is centrally heated and carpeted. Residents provide their own bed linen, blankets and towels.  There is a housekeeping service once/week but residents launder their own linen. Residents can decorate their rooms to their taste so long as they do not damage the paintwork, fixtures and fittings in the room, so feel free to bring along your posters and soft furnishings.

Later year students have the opportunity to request particular rooms or floors in the following academic year. This produces distinctive communities: some floors are quieter than others, some have an older profile; others have a very sociable feel or share a common interest such as sports or social causes. We try to place first year students in a floor community that includes residents with common interests so they feel at home right away.

The catered study/bedrooms provided at Bruce Hall include: single bed frame, mattress, mattress protector, curtains, flyscreen, desk and chair, telephone with voicemail, internet connection, bookcase or bookshelves, wall noticeboard, wardrobe and storage cupboards, handbasin

Other Catered Rooms

Bruce Hall has quite a number of other types of catered study/bed rooms including double rooms, ensuite rooms and rooms with balconies. These are very popular and are generally occupied by later year students. There are also a small number of rooms which can be offered at a reduced rate to students with financial constraints. Please contact the Dean of Residents for more information about these rooms.

The Packard wing, opened in 2004, provides self catered accommodation for later year students and most of Bruce's postgraduate students. These studios are in very high demand and there are few vacancies at any time of the year. Undergraduate students generally need to have lived at Bruce Hall for a minimum of two years (4 semesters) before being considered for a place in Packard. There are Standard, Medium and Large Studios. The Standard studio will accommodate a single resident, whereas the Medium and Large studios will accommodate two students. There are regular room inspections.
